Melody Jin, MA

Doctoral Psychology Extern

Melody (Xiaotong) Jin is a doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. program at George Washington University. She earned her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Boston College and her Master of Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. Melody works under the supervision of Dr. Dee Majko.

Melody’s clinical training includes experience in public school, college counseling, community mental health, psychological assessment, and programs supporting neurodivergent young adults. Across these settings, she has worked with adolescents, emerging adults, and adults navigating concerns related to anxiety, depression, identity development, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, life transitions, perfectionism, trauma, and self-esteem. Melody has a strong interest in working with couples.

Melody’s therapeutic approach is primarily psychodynamic and insight-oriented, grounded in the belief that meaningful change occurs through a strong therapeutic relationship. She works collaboratively with clients to explore how past experiences, relationships, and patterns may shape present-day emotional experiences and interpersonal functioning. While insight is an important part of the therapeutic process, Melody also integrates interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and mindfulness-based approaches to support clients in creating meaningful and lasting change.

Drawing from her experiences navigating multiple cultural contexts, Melody is particularly interested in the intersection of culture, identity, family dynamics, and mental health. She has special interests in identity development, multicultural concerns, attachment and relational patterns, life transitions, and supporting individuals navigating the complexities of belonging across cultures. As a bilingual therapist, she offers therapy in both English and Mandarin and strives to create a warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive therapeutic environment where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to explore their experiences with curiosity and compassion.

Clients can expect a warm, thoughtful, and collaborative approach that balances curiosity, compassion, and challenge while honoring each individual’s unique experiences and goals.

Melody believes that therapy can be a space for healing, self-discovery, and growth. She feels honored to walk alongside clients as they deepen their understanding of themselves, strengthen their relationships, and move toward lives that feel more authentic and fulfilling.
