Clinical Psychology Externship Program (2026–2027)
Iris Therapy Services is a private practice serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, with locations in Arlington and McLean, Virginia. We provide evidence-based, culturally responsive outpatient psychotherapy and comprehensive psychological assessment services for children, adolescents, and adults. Our work is grounded in collaboration, clinical rigor, and professional growth.
Program Overview
The 2026–2027 Clinical Psychology Externship Program offers doctoral-level trainees immersive training within a private practice setting. Externs are primarily based in our Arlington location and work closely with licensed psychologists across therapy and assessment services. Training emphasizes clinical skill development, professional identity formation, and multicultural competence. Program Dates: August/September 2026 – July 30, 2027
Time Commitment: 16–20 hours per week
Format: Hybrid (in-person and telehealth)
Stipend: Modest stipend to offset travel-related expenses
Externs gain experience working with a wide range of presenting concerns, including ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, personality dynamics, sociopolitical stressors, and major life transitions. Additional exposure includes intake processes, clinical documentation, and the operational aspects of private practice.
Application Information
Applicants must be enrolled in an APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral program and have completed at least one year of doctoral coursework by the start of the externship. Prior supervised clinical experience is preferred and required for the Advanced Track. Further information can be found in our brochure.
